DepicT Short Film Reviews

Sun

'Sun' is an animated 90 second short film based on a personified sun. In the film, the Sun comes out and ends up destroying everything it comes into contact with. Towards the end, the Sun comes face to face with a person who out smarts it by using darkness and the Moon to overcome it. I liked this film because it uses the danger and strength of something we see everyday but don't even give a second thought about. This short story works well because it takes events that happen regularly in much hotter countries such as forest fires or wildlife dying, and makes them stand out to an audience that hasn't dealt with them before in a subtle way.

Torn

'Torn' is another animated short film based around the breakdown of a family via the eyes of a child. In this video, the parents of the child argue without knowing the child is watching. In the eyes of the child this seems horrifying and in his mind, the angry and bad sides of his parents chase him as he thinks its his fault they're going to separate. He ends up in a long, empty corridor with the lights quickly going out, signifying that his life is turning dark and lonely. I liked this because it is an imaginative representation of the thoughts of a young child going through a big life changing experience and the way his mind reacts to it. It works well because many people around the world can watch this and relate to it very easily due to the nature of the story.

A2042

'A2042' is a short film centered on a Police officer having a fear induced panic attack due to an ongoing riot. I liked this video because it shows a side of real life scenarios (such as riots) that regularly go unseen and gives them a breath of life. The whole story works well because it shows a realistic atmosphere and raw emotion developed during certain events that can ruin and breakdown anyone, no matter their title, occupation, lifestyle and/or background. It provides a sense of unison and diversity between us all, giving us a momentary lapse of equality and freedom from the constant battle of acceptance and popularity that modern society gives us day to day.
