3 Minute Wonder Research

3 Minute Wonders

A 3 minute wonder is a short documentary that has an overall running time of 3 minutes. These documentaries can be based on any topic but is usually based on opinions or personal stories due to all the information having to be condensed into a short period. I would expect to see a 3MW based on hobbies, beliefs or views or personal issues such as illnesses.

Karl Pilkington- Holidays

I like this documentary because its humorous, yet lets us know his views- some of which of are actually fair points. From watching this documentary, I came to realise the differences in cultures through the way he said if the Colosseum was in Britain, people would want it knocked down and something else built in its place. In my opinion, this 3MW has been made in the format of a reflexive documentary, due to its use of opinions and constant involvement of the director.

Last Supper

I enjoyed this 3MW because it took us to the point of view of a man on death row and gave us his first hand experiences around the world of death row. It gave me a point that I cannot forget and find very interesting- the person on death row has all suffering ended, whereas their family, friends and other innocent people are left to suffer from their loss instead of the person who is actually in prison which isn't actually fair. I feel that this 3MW is a perforamative and expository documentary as it focuses on the emotions and views of the prisoner and tries to portray his human side to the audience.

Just an Interest

I enjoyed this documentary because of its unique editing style and querky content shown throughout. The hobby this man has is really interesting to see unfold as he makes each figure. I learned about the artistic nature of this man's love for creativity and how he turned it into a job that takes up just as much time as a more conventional job. It just proves that no matter what you're good at, you can make a job out of it if you're good enough and work hard enough at it. I think that this 3MW is expository due to its one sided nature and facts that are given by this one man about the topic at hand.
